This course is designed to give the student a deep and practical understanding of high blood pressure (hypertension)from both a scientific and Bible-based perspective.
The student will become thoroughly acquainted with hypertension—what it is, how it develops, how it affects the body, the different classifications of the condition, and the many factors that can contribute to elevated blood pressure. Rather than simply learning what high blood pressure is, the student will explore the underlying processes taking place within the body and develop a clearer understanding of why blood pressure can become elevated and what conditions may contribute to maintaining that state.
A major emphasis of this course is learning how to work with the body’s natural processes rather than against them. The student will examine Bible-based principles of health and natural approaches that may be used to support the body’s efforts to restore and maintain healthier conditions. This includes examining lifestyle practices, appropriate food selection, and other natural-health principles that have been utilized by Floyd Mayberry and others in the field of natural health education.
The course will also explore the many contributing factors associated with hypertension, including factors that may not always receive adequate attention in basic discussions of high blood pressure. Students will learn how these factors can affect the body’s ability to maintain healthy blood-pressure levels and how they may be addressed through a comprehensive approach to health education and lifestyle improvement.
Nutrition will be an important part of the program. Students will learn about specific foods and food choices commonly used within natural-health approaches to supporting healthy blood pressure, along with the principles behind those choices. The purpose is not simply to provide a list of foods, but to help the student understand how nutrition can become part of a broader strategy for supporting overall health.
Because accurate blood-pressure measurement is essential, students will also receive practical instruction in the use of commonly encountered blood-pressure monitoring equipment. This includes the manual sphygmomanometer, electronic sphygmomanometer, and wrist blood-pressure monitor. Students will learn the basic principles of obtaining reliable readings, understanding the differences between these devices, and recognizing the importance of proper technique when monitoring blood pressure.
The spiritual dimension of health will also be addressed. Students will learn how prayer, biblical encouragement, faith, and compassionate spiritual support can be appropriately incorporated when ministering to individuals who are experiencing health challenges. This portion of the course is intended to help students understand how to support the whole person—physically, mentally, and spiritually—while respecting individual circumstances and beliefs.
An equally important part of this training is understanding where the boundaries of health education and personal support end and licensed medical practice begins. Students will learn how to provide responsible health information and encouragement without diagnosing disease, prescribing medical treatment, or making claims beyond their legal scope of practice. They will also learn to recognize situations in which an individual should seek evaluation or treatment from a qualified healthcare professional.
Ultimately, this course is intended to equip students with a comprehensive framework for understanding and supporting individuals with high blood pressure. It brings together scientific knowledge, Bible-based health principles, natural-health education, nutrition, lifestyle practices, practical blood-pressure monitoring, prayer, and responsible boundaries.
The goal is to help the student become better educated, better prepared, and more responsible when assisting others in their pursuit of healthier living—while recognizing that natural-health education and spiritual support should complement, rather than replace, appropriate professional medical care when it is needed.
